♦ Elder Miller week 14 (11/21/22)

Bon Siman!

Hey everyone! Hope you are all well. This week has been good. We are finding a lot of new people and getting pretty wet. This year the rain has come early and half the time we bike, a good chunk of our tires are under water. But the rain is nice, because it keeps the heat down.

We had a super big service project as a branch this week, that was a big yard clean up. We caught a big Boa and got a pretty sweet video of a guy chopping its head. hahaha, I got to hold it after. It was a big snake, but here in Aruba you are supposed to kill them so that was nuts. The guy was so nonchalant about it too. It cracked me up how long it took to do the job. The people out here are the best!

Went on a fun exchange this week with an Elder who is new in Aruba. Exchanges are crazy because they always lead to the neatest miracles. We were biking around and it was getting pretty late, but we decided to go down to the end of the street we were on before we turned around. I recognized the very last house on the street and had talked to a man there before; so we called in, and a woman came out and she told us how missionaries had taught her family 12 years earlier, but had stopped coming. She said she had finally gotten married and wanted us to come and teach her family. They are so eager to learn and I am so excited for that lesson later this week.

My Papiamento is getting better! I am feeling more comfortable with it every week, and I am beginning to teach lessons with more words I want to use, and less one liners that I have memorized.

Happy Thanksgiving! Well, almost. They don't have Thanksgiving down here, so that's lame because it is one of my favorite holidays. But the Zone Conference is this week and it is actually on Thanksgiving so the senior couples are going to put together a nice lunch for us, so that'll be awesome.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I was reading the Book of Mormon this week and there was a verse about being grateful that I loved. In 2 Nephi 9 it says:

Behold, my beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him continually by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night. Let your hearts rejoice."

We all really do have so much to be thankful for. Do we spend enough time on our knees thanking the Lord for all he gives us? I know that is something I want to be better about. Especially coming out here and seeing how humble and grateful the people of Aruba are, even when they don' t have much. The gospel of Jesus Christ is something to be grateful for everyday. It has changed my life, and I get to see it change the lives of so many wonderful people out here! Love you all, I am grateful for each one of you!
