Elder Miller week 15 (11-28-2022)
Bon Siman Tur!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving week and were able to eat some turkey! I had a Zone Conference on Thursday and it was so nice! The senior couples made us an American-style thanksgiving dinner and it was so good! They are the BEST. Other than that, this week has been wet and we were able to meet a lot of really neat people. Also we got one of our friends to church this week and he really loved it! So we hope we can get him to continue coming.
One day this week I was able to go with my companion to one of the highest points in Aruba where there is a water-tower. We took some really amazing pictures of the whole island. It is so crazy and funny to me how drastic the change is from one side of the island to the other. Most of it is low key with cactus and homes, but then a solid chunk in the north is massive hotels and resorts with cruise liners pulling up all week. Just cracks me up because it is almost two different Arubas.
I got the opportunity to teach a pretty unique lesson this week about the Temple and the covenants we make there. It was with a recent convert who is pretty old and most likely will never be in a financially secure place to travel to the nearest temple (Dominican Republic I think). It was a pretty neat experience to explain the importance of the covenants we make there. Many people here have never been to the Temple but it is so neat to see them cherish their temple recommends that they may never use. We are so blessed to have temples in our lives. I know if we make time to be there, everything else in your life will find room. I love the Temple!
I don't know if this is just me, because I have never really been into soccer that much, but I feel like America isn't too crazy about it, but the World Cup is going on, and it's all anyone wants to talk about around here. I can't lie though; it is a great conversation starter that's for sure. So if you’re a soccer die-hard, I hope your team does well!
We also had a fun sports night at the church this week where we were able to get one of our friends to. He is a young guy from the Dominican Republic who is more into basketball than futbol- which is the clear favorite here. So while some played soccer it was fun to be able to connect with our friend and hoop it up a bit.
I loved this verse in the first chapter of Joshua this week:
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
No matter how hard times get, I know the Lord is with us. Don't forget that. He is there in our struggle and is there in our triumph. Trust in Him, and His timing. On my mission I have seen that He wants me to work on that.
Best wishes this week! I hope it's a good one!
