♦ Elder Miller week 27 (2-20-23)
Hope you are all doing great! It has been a great week here in Aruba! We had a great turn out to church yesterday! One friend's first time, which was so sweet! This weekend has been kinda crazy with Carnaval going on. All the missionaries on the islands had to be in their apartments by 7:00 pm because things got a little dicey with all the partying. So that made missionary work interesting this weekend, but we still found some super humble people that we are excited to get to know in the coming week.
Pretty fun this week a member tourist family who we met at church said they wanted to feed us missionaries, which was so kind. So we went and had an amazing breakfast with them and that night I got a message from family that they are my uncle's brother and sister in-law.. we hadn't figured that out when we were with them. Craziness. So that was so funny and fun to have a family connection on the island. The next day too they were leaving and brought us all their extra food. It was so kind of them and it is helping us out a ton!
Another week with lots of service which was fun. It is so neat to see people shocked when we stop our bikes and just start helping them out in their yard in our white shirts and ties. I always love seeing their reactions. We had a pretty neat miracle this weekend as we were biking down this one street and we stopped and turned around to see a guy running towards us and yelling at us to wait up. At first he thought we were Jehovah witness members (cracks me up because a lot of people think that at first) but then when we told him who we were he said he really wanted to learn more. Turns out he is a really good professional soccer player who decided to leave that kind of lifestyle in Holland, to come back to Aruba and learn more about God. It was so neat, we exchanged phone numbers and we are looking forward to meeting with him this week!
One part of the Book of Mormon in Alma 37 really stood out to me this week...
46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.
That is so important! So many of us have been blessed to be a part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for most or all of our lives. I like the word the scriptures use, "slothful". It is so easy to start going through the motions with anything related to the Gospel. It is so important to not become relaxed with our promises and covenants we have made with God! Our covenants with Him open the doors of Heaven in our lives, and in our families lives if we live worthy of them. So my invitation to everyone this week is to, like this verse says, "that if they would look they might live". What can we look at in our lives and change to become a more devoted, faithful, pure disciple of Jesus Christ? I know as we do even the most little things to change and become more like our Savior, we more fully have the spirit to be with us!
You are all awesome! Thanks for all you do! I hope this next week brings something great for everyone! Thank you for all the prayers and support!
