At the airport DO NOT SAY “volunteer for my church” it sends a red flag about interns under an employer Say …. “We are here for Religious Purposes” That is the truth, and you can be confident in saying it. We are drafting a letter that you can take with you as well.
Elder Miller,
Thanks for your letter this week. And thanks for the work you’ve done in Noord. I know you spent a lot of time there. I feel like you learned a lot as a missionary and left the area better than you found it. That’s good.
I’m excited for you and Elder Pedersen to work together in Bonaire. I’m looking forward to seeing some amazing things happening. I feel like the Lord’s eyes are on that branch. It’s a good time to be there. “Thrust in your sickle with all your might…”
Good question about why we don’t do the sacrament at conferences. I even looked in the handbook, and I couldn’t at least in the sacrament and stake conference sections find an answer. In these cases what I fall back on is that we are led by prophets, seers and revelators, who have told us that certain Sundays of the year we have special meetings and don’t partake of the sacrament. I have heard those meetings referred to as “pentacostal experiences” where we feel the spirit strongly and have a desire to improve. We follow their direction. It goes back to having people realize that we can’t read or receive every doctrinal answer. Some things require our acceptance and our faith. It’s part of being a member of the restored church.
I hope that helps. It’s not great, but it’s all I have. Have a good week. We love you.
Richard Lamprecht
