♦Elder Miller week 35 (4-17-23)
Bon Siman Tur!
Hey! How are you all? I had a great week! We have started teaching two young families and it is the best! They all want the light of Christ and it is so fun for them to discover it together! Saw so many new and cool things and made all sorts of friends.
First friends were some donkeys on the side of the road. We had some carrots and they were not shy at all! So funny I would have never put a Caribbean island and a Donkey paradise in the same bucket but holy cow, it totally is!
Our other friends we made were of a different faith! We got to go to two different churches this last week. First to the biggest church in Bonaire is the Catholic church. I have never been to one of their services and it was really neat how important Christ is to them. Lots of good language study for me too! Then later in the week we were able to go to the only muslim mosque in Bonaire. Wow. I will never forget that. One of our friends we met is muslim and insisted we come. We took off our shoes and sat on a carpet for the preaching. Most of it was in Arabic and that was crazy. They would sing/yodel from their scriptures "The Quran" while doing several prayers. Felt like yoga kinda to me. But they were all so kind to us. After the preaching and prayer the leaders in the group came and sat on the floor with us in a circle and discussed their beliefs with us. So interesting to learn how others believe, and neat to see them so faithful in their religion.
One of those families we are teaching came to church yesterday! It was so sweet to see their family walk in. I love them! We had gotten ties for the son and father and it was so sweet to see them wearing them. Excited to continue teaching them!
Other than that, there are these crazy huge Bocce Ball tournaments here. The islanders go all in and every night are at these courts playing against other teams. It's actually way cool to watch.
While I was reading in the Bible this week I came across a verse in the Book of John that I really liked. In chapter 16...
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Because Jesus Christ has overcome the world so can we! Find peace in that. God's plan is a plan of Happiness and you can find exactly that. If you have time I would definitely read this talk by our beloved prophet:
Have a great week! Thanks for all the support!
