♦ Elder Miller week 87 (4-15-24)

 Good day!

How is everyone? Crazy it's the middle of April! I'm having a lot of fun here in Guyana and am blessed by so many good examples around me.

This country is wild! I'm trying to figure out how I can explain it to you in an email. I guess the definition of a 'cultural melting-pot'. As we bike from one village to another we see so many different kinds of people and beliefs. Another thing that is just fun is you never know what random things you'll see each day. Just last night my companion and I were biking through a village close to our home. It was dark and quiet and we came around the corner to an entire block party. There were cars everywhere jamming the street, loud speakers stacked on top of eachother on every car and along the side of the road. Tons of people, drinking, and dancing. Just a massive party in the middle of the street out of nowhere. Pretty funny to walk through that. Hopefully a sober person or two saw us and will reach out down the road. Maybe a longshot but we'll see.

Also this week I got to add another "new" food to my list of crazy things I've tried while on my mission-- this last week it was alligator.  (and one that had been caught in a nearby trench- yikes- those waters are sketchy)  I tried not to think about it, and couldn't refuse either because it was offered in so much kindness and generosity by my friend Juan Francisco.

We had zone conference and it was so good. I am so grateful for my mission president and his wife; from what they teach us I always get a notebook full of things to work on. Also fun to see some other island Elders who have recently been transferred here. Good papiamento practice for sure!

I came across a scripture that strengthens me...

Alma 34:39
39 Yea, and I also exhort you, my brethren, that ye be watchful unto prayer continually, that ye may not be led away by the temptations of the devil, that he may not overpower you, that ye may not become his subjects at the last day; for behold, he rewardeth you no good thing.

We live in a day where being casual will not cut it. The adversary works all day everyday to drag us down. Don't let him win, and please don't go at him alone! You have so much help as you reach out and up!

Have a fantastic week! Thank you for your prayers!
