♦ Elder Miller week 9 (10-17-2022)

Bon tardi famia i amigunan!

Hope you are all doing well! It has been a crazy week with so much new...well all new:). Finally starting to settle into my first area here in Aruba. I am starting to know my way around, and am not the new guy in church settings anymore. The languages are coming, but it has definitely been tricky practicing both.

Papiamentu sounds so cool and I like to use it more than Spanish because it's a little easier, but here on Aruba it is mainly Spanish, so I really need to focus on that.

I would have said I was a no bike kinda  guy before my mission, but if you asked me now, I'd probably say I am a die-hard biker. And that's not because I like it, but because I literally live on that thing. It's good for me and great exercise but I’m pretty sore from riding, and it makes the street dogs go crazy around here. I even got bit this week! So yes, bikes, bikes, bikes, but we have pretty cool zone leaders who take us to church on Sundays and around on p-days.

Island time. I thought it was a joke before my mission, kind of like a laid back, beach lifestyle, but it is a real! It is just a vibe on the islands in my mission, of just chill, and no problem bailing out on lessons with us. Like if it rains, it doesn't matter if our lesson is inside, it's canceled, period. It's actually kind of funny and the people crack me up, but it does make missionary work so much harder. So if we get a lesson to follow through, we try to make sure we hit it home.

For p-day this week we went to Arikok national park. It was so legit, and I got to see the water for the very first time up close! It is so pretty, and literally looks like someone dumped a ton of that turquoise Gatorade in the ocean. Being able to remember I am actually on an island was so nice, and made all the cactus and dirt manageable.

I keep meeting so many amazing people who have taught me so much. Aruba is full of happy people. I hope you are all great, thank you for your prayers, they mean the world to me. I am sorry if I can't respond to emails, I'll do my best, but always run out of time. I love you guys!

Scripture of the week: Alma 26:12 from the Book of Mormon...

Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

I can barely speak to the people here, but through God the spirit can be felt! Let him work through you too, and be amazed!

Bon Siman!
