♦ Elder Miller week 31 (3-20-23) BONAIRE

Sak pase!

Hey everyone! Hope last week was a blast for all of you! My week was crazy! Coming to Bonaire has been so fun, believe it or not, a lot different than Aruba! I have already started to meet so many amazing people and I am learning so so much!

So Bonaire... At least my area here is much smaller than Aruba. Most of the population on the island lives in the main city called Kralendijk. So that has been so different. Shorter bike rides have been nice along with a little less sweat. My area in Noord, Aruba was very Latino, and here I don't even know what it is. So many different cultures. So many Dutch people, mostly down by the water, but then a mix of natives, Latinos, Dominicans, Jamaicans, and Haitians. They are each so fun to talk to. I have officially started learning Haitian creole! There are so many Haitian guys here and they come to our English classes at the church and we teach a few of them. They inspire me, because most of them have families still in Haiti and it is so dangerous and they are trying to get them out. Other than that, we get so many people talking to us in Dutch. I don't think I can learn that one, it's way hard. We even taught a Portuguese lesson this week. Craziness. Mostly us in Spanish and throwing a few Portuguese words in there. Super neat though.

Mackenley! He is one of our friends who has taken the discussions for over a year with the missionaries. He is Haitian, and loves basketball. We connected so quick because he is a Lakers/LeBron fan. It is so legit though, he is getting baptized this Saturday, between flying to Curacao for cancer treatments. His story is so neat and I am excited to get to know him better. Keep him in your prayers!

I have a new companion! His name is Elder Pedersen. He is a stud. Actually though, I have learned so much from him already and he is just a hard worker. Our days are always jammed pack with lessons, and he is always keeping it fun. I am excited to work here with him.

I got to play some baseball the other day! It is actually super popular on this island. So fun though, and playing with a bunch of guys barefoot jokin around in Papiamento was so fun. The culture is just so mixed and so fun.

Something kinda fun is when I got here we were in an apartment built during WW2, so super old, and man something died in the ceiling so it absolutely reeked. So now for the next couple weeks until we get a new apartment we are staying in an Air BnB which is sweet. Feels like a vacation spot and in the morning like we should be going to the beach- which is funny, but we are trying to enjoy it while we have it.

Quick spiritual thing this week. In 3 Nephi in the Book of Mormon chapter 18:
24 Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed.

I don't have much to say with this one. Hold up your light, and shine bright!
I love you all, thanks so much for the prayers and emails. Means a ton to me!
Pasa ya bon semen!
