♦ Elder Miller week 80 (2-26-24)

 Buenos Dias!

Hope everyone is well! This week was a lot of fun and I am learning so much here in Guyana...

If you need a boost this story of faith is pretty remarkable...
Our friend Juan Francisco is a Venezuelan that lives here and he is a light! He moved from a really hard life in Venezuela and lives a very simple and humble life here. He is one of the most content and happiest people I have met on my mission though. He is just a trooper and ever since hearing about the gospel he has been fully onboard with changing his lifestyle. He is 79 years old and only speaks spanish. Every sunday he walks about 30 minutes to church for a couple hours to sit in a meeting he can't understand and be around people he can't communicate with. Yet it doesn't stop him. He knows the Book of Mormon is true and that there is a living prophet on the earth and so he just trusts. It is pretty amazing to see and we help translate where we can for him. Anyways this weekend he was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (I'll send his picture too) The first ever spanish-speaking baptism in this branch. It was pretty special and I am so happy for him! His story makes me want to be better and walk by faith more consistently.

Being in this country has been pretty fun. Everyone is pretty open to us sharing the gospel. The challenge is finding a bridge with a lot of Hindus, Muslims, and Rastafarians who have a whole different way of thinking and believing. Great people though and it's been pretty wild.

Life is good though, and I am having some pretty legit experiences here. Learning to like all sorts of curry with roti and working with the members here is a party.

This scripture was on my mind this week and I wanted to share it...
Mormon 9:28
28 Be wise in the days of your probation; strip yourselves of all uncleanness; ask not, that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living God.

Hope you all have a great week! Days go by too fast.
