♦ Elder Miller week 96 (6/17/24)
Bon dia!
Another week in the books! Hope all is well with each of you. We had a pretty neat week here...
Transfers will happen this coming week and I'll be staying put here in San Nicolaas, Aruba but my companion is off to Curaçao so I'll be getting to work with a new Elder. That'll mix things up for sure.
Here's a little update on the island and what the locals are talking about:
Its the middle of the summer season and it is so hot. Everytime we meet with someone the first thing said is "hopi kayente" too hot!
We talked to a couple different fisherman this week that get all worked up with the weather and all the wind Aruba is getting lately. They say it causes rough seas and all the fish don't bite. So if you are planning a fishing trip here anytime soon, keep it on hold for a bit.
A few different really amazing people moved to the island and our area this past week amd they are such a blessing to us and the branch. We look forward to working towards baptism with them.
As I was in the Book of Mormon this past week, this passage about the people of Nephi stood out to me...
4 Nephi 1:15-16
15 And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people. 16 ...and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God.
Something I have learned to add to my prayers on my mission is to ask God to fill me with His love so I can find joy in His work, with His beautiful people here, and even at times with my companion. Just as this scripture teaches us, true happiness is found only in loving God and loving His children. Our prophet has taught us recently that contention drives the spirit away every time! And where the spirit isn't, there can be no joy. I invite us all to show a little more love this week, we are all working towards the same goal!
Have a nice week! Thanks for reading these!
