♦ Elder Miller week 97 (6/24/24)

 Bon siman nobo!

We had a great first week of the transfer here. Lots of new missionaries in and out of the island and we are looking forward to seeing some miracles this next month.

I dropped my previous companion off at the airport early in the week and it was quite the ordeal. I guess some background context for all of you is he was a fanatic for collecting ties during the transfer. Almost every house we went to he would ask if they had ties they didn't use. By the end of his time here, he had hangers and hangers full of ties. Like no joke over 200 ties (and those are just the ones he likes). Watching him pack all these ties in his luggage was pretty funny but I was impressed he got them all to fit. It was smooth sailing until we got to the check-in desk at the airport and he had to weigh his luggage when we started running into problems. Shocked, the lady told us his stuff was 17 kilos over and it was too much to even pay an overweight fee. So in the middle of the airport, he started pulling stuff out and went for pants and shoes before he ever touched one tie. We went back to the desk to weigh several times but it was way too heavy. Finally he pulled out over 30 ties and handed it to me to protect until he comes back. Too funny. We could've had a whole yard sale in the airport lobby. So after he got through I took arm fulls of his stuff back out of the airport. Cracked me up, and a fun memory of the mission for sure. We took some pictures.

We met with a new friend this past week and as we were getting to know him, he asked where I was from. I told him Idaho (usually that is enough for the people out here to not know where) but then asked me what part of Idaho and I told him the Boise area. He got excited, hurried over to his table and picked up a bright orange hat with the Boise State University logo right on the front of it! What are the chances? He picked it up from someone who came awhile ago. I'll add a picture. Got fans all the way out in Aruba who bleed blue and orange. Lets go! Go Broncos!

On Sunday a new branch presidency was set apart and Elders Quorum presidency. I'm excited to rub shoulders with them and know they'll help bring so much growth to this branch.

As I was in the Book of Mormon this past week I wanted to share a scripture that I loved...
Alma 5:6
6 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, you that belong to this church, have you sufficiently retained in remembrance the captivity of your fathers? Yea, and have you sufficiently retained in remembrance his mercy and long-suffering towards them? And moreover, have ye sufficiently retained in remembrance that he has delivered their souls from hell?

Remembering is so important! There are countless things we need to remember in our busy lives. The most important thing we can remember however is all that God has done for us and is currently doing in our lives. As we make it our top priority to remember Him and our covenants, everything else will fall into place. I know that! We have so much to be grateful for!

Have a super good week!
